Hello, I'm Emily Sims — a web designer and developer with 11+ years of experience building sites that are both beautiful and built to perform.
I specialize in building custom websites within content management systems including Webflow, WordPress, Joomla, Shopify, Squarespace, Square and Wix, giving every project full content control without sacrificing a sharp, modern, on-brand design.
What sets me apart is a design-first approach to development. Before writing a line of code, I focus on layout, flow, and visual storytelling, so every site I build is functional and genuinely well-designed. I write and edit HTML/CSS directly, extend functionality with JavaScript and custom snippets, and use AI-assisted tools like Claude Code to move efficiently without sacrificing quality.
Most recently, I owned and led design and development at Geek Powered Studios, where I also built hands-on experience in marketing technology and automation, including tag management, integrations, and AI-assisted tooling, work that taught me how design and development connect to the systems a business actually runs on.
Over the years, I've worked with startups, creative professionals, and businesses of every size, helping turn ideas into impactful, well-built online presences. I believe in clean code, thoughtful design, and building with the end user in mind.
When I'm not designing or coding, you'll usually find me exploring new design trends, testing typography pairings, or fine-tuning the small details that make the biggest difference.
Personal Life
My hobbies include arts and crafts, training my dog Churro, baking, baseball, hiking, game nights, and movies.
It all started with MySpace (my fellow computer geeks will understand). Over 20 years ago, my first love, HTML, sparked an interest in web and graphic design that I could not escape. Ever since, I have maintained a fierce passion for making the web a brighter, more beautiful place to be.
A curious and avid student, I continuously work on passion projects such as online coding bootcamps, studying additional languages, and learning musical instruments (currently the piano).
I enjoy supporting my community by volunteering at local animal shelters, assisting the visually impaired on the app "Be My Eyes", and tutoring English.
